On March 4, 2025, Javad Nazari Monfared, Economic Counsellor of the Embassy of Iran in China, visited the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES) to engage in in-depth discussions on strengthening cooperation in environmental science and technology between China and Iran.

During the visit, Counsellor Monfared toured key laboratories focusing on comprehensive observation for atmospheric environment, and vehicle emission control and simulation. He gained in-depth insights into China’s latest scientific research achievements and technological advancements in air pollution prevention and control.

Counsellor Monfared emphasized that Iran is committed to ecological and environmental protection as a national priority, enshrining environmental protection in the country’s constitution. He also mentioned severe air pollution challenges in Tehran and other major cities, as well as nationwide environmental crises such as frequent sandstorms, water scarcity, biodiversity loss, and soil contamination. Having seen CRAES’ outstanding achievements in research and innovation, as well as the application of research outcomes, Monfared stressed that it is urgent for Iran to learn from China’s valuable experience in environmental governance, particularly in combating air pollution.

Both sides reached a preliminary consensus on promoting the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CRAES and relevant Iranian institutions. They agreed to establish cooperative relationships and carry out practical collaboration in priority areas.

This visit marks the beginning of environmental science and technology cooperation between CRAES and Iran. Both sides expressed their willingness to jointly address regional environmental challenges, advance the green development of the Belt and Road Initiative, and boost scientific and technological support for the high-quality development of China-Iran environmental cooperation.
