About the Fund
The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) aims to attract and support outstanding young scholars from abroad, including non-Chinese talents, who have made significant contributions in natural sciences, engineering, or related fields, to work in China. The fund enables these scholars to independently select their research focus and conduct innovative research. It is designed to foster the rapid development of young scientific and technological talents and nurture a cohort of distinguished academic leaders expected to reach the forefront of global science and technology. Through this program, awardees will receive institutional support to conduct frontier research while contributing to the nation's goal of becoming a scientific powerhouse.

2025 Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) Eligibility Requirements
The eligibility of the 2025 fund may refer to the Eligibility for Applicants to the 2024 Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas), released by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
1. To apply you must be qualified in the following:
ü Demonstrated adherence to the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, strong scientific ethics, and commitment to practicing the spirit of scientists for a new era.
ü Born on or after January 1st, 1985.
ü Possession of doctoral degree from internationally recognized institution.
ü Primary focus on natural sciences, engineering & technology disciplines,
ü Minimum 36 consecutive months of post-PhD research/teaching experience at overseas academic institutions or corporate R&D centers prior to September 15, 2025
ü Exception: PhD holders from overseas institutions with exceptional research output may qualify with reduced experience
ü Documented research accomplishments with peer validation through high-impact publications, technological innovations, demonstrated leadership potential in specialized field.
ü Currently not holding full-time position in China, OR Commenced China-based employment after January 1, 2024, Mandatory full-time service commitment in China for ≥3 years post-award.
2. Program Eligibility Restrictions
Compliance with the national policy on coordinated implementation of science and technology talent programs.
Applicants may hold only one active grant within the same-tier National Science and Technology Talent Programs.
Concurrent applications to lower-tier programs within the same funding system are strictly prohibited.
Benefits
1) Appointment & Compensation
Successful applications will be granted a senior professional technical title with uncapped equity participation rights in research and development of high-tech, transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and industrialization of high-tech achievements.
2) Research Start-up Funding
The national government will provide 1-3 million RMB grant disbursed over three years, and the CRAES provides ≥1:1 supplemental funding against the national allocation.

Dedicated research team including a minimum of 3 research assistants

Introduction
The Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES), established in 1978 and directly under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, is a national non-profit research institution dedicated to public benefit in the field of ecological and environmental protection. In alignment with China's sustainable development strategy, CRAES carries out innovative and fundamental scientific research on critical environmental issues. It is devoted to delivering strategic, forward-looking, and comprehensive scientific and technological support for national economic and social development, as well as for environmental decision-making. Furthermore, CRAES provides engineering solutions and expert consulting to tackle major environmental challenges, offering strong scientific underpinning for key national strategies, including the campaign to prevent and control pollution.
Talent Structure
CRAES has a workforce of over 1,200 employees. Among them are 5 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 48 recipients of prestigious national-level talent awards such as the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Excellent Young Scientists Fund, and the National Ten Thousand Talents Program, 11 experts recognized with special government allowances from the State Council, and 38 recipients of ministerial and provincial-level talent awards, including the title of National Environmental Protection Leading Talent. More than 200 staff members hold senior professional titles, and over 430 hold associate senior titles. A high-level talent structure has been established, centered around one NSFC Innovative Research Group, two national-level key field innovation teams, and one national outstanding professional and technical talent team.
CRAES is the only research institution in the national ecological and environmental protection system that offers a doctoral professional degree program, six master's academic degree programs, and one master's professional degree program. It currently has more than 1,000 postgraduate students enrolled.

CRAES has been honored with 2 First Prizes and 15 Second Prizes in the National Science and Technology Progress Awards, 1 First Prize and 2 Second Prizes in the National Technology Invention Awards. Additionally, it has obtained over 1,000 provincial- and ministerial-level Science and Technology Progress Awards, including 21 First Prizes in Environmental Protection Science and Technology Awards.
Since 2017, more than 10,000 papers have been issued, including over 5,000 SCI-indexed papers, 400+ academic monographs and 1,000+ granted patents (95 international patents).
