CRAES at the 20th International Symposium on Waste Management, Resource Recovery and Sustainable Landfilling
2025-10-20

From October 13 to 15, 2025, a delegation from the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES) attended the 20th International Symposium on Waste Management, Resource Recovery and Sustainable Landfilling in Italy. The symposium featured 8 parallel tracks of sessions and 107 specialized topics, bringing together over 400 experts worldwide to exchange insights and hold discussions on cutting-edge topics in relevant fields.

During the conference, the delegation delivered two keynote reports. The reports, titled Organic Solid Waste Directed Resource Utilization and Carbon Pollution Reduction Reflection in Synergy: Transformation Pathway of the Carbon Group during Co-Pyrolysis of Sludge and Garden Waste and Innovation in the Path of Cleaner Production Audit Mechanism in China from the Perspective of Circular Economy, presented China's approaches to the solid waste management from the angles of policy and institutional innovation. The two reports showcased China's technological exploration and institutional innovation in the fields of solid waste resource utilization and low-carbon management, which sparked positive attention and discussions among international peers.

During the visit, the delegation continued to advance substantive cooperation with the International Waste Working Group (IWWG). The IWWG highly values its long-term collaboration with CRAES. Building upon the existing cooperation agreement signed by both parties, the delegation held practical discussions with the IWWG on future collaboration plans, particularly focusing on joint research and promotion of scientific research results. They reached a preliminary consensus on the specific work arrangements with IWWG members, laying a solid foundation for future deepened cooperation.

The symposium, regularly organized by IWWG, is one of the world's leading solid waste management conferences. This year, it focused on urban resource cycling, sustainable landfilling technologies, smart waste systems, and carbon-neutral management, providing an advanced platform for global experts in the field to exchange ideas. Through this visit, CRAES showcased China's latest progress and practical experience in solid waste management and resource recovery, actively promoting green and low-carbon development solutions, and further expanding its collaborative network with international peers and renowned institutions.
