马克·贝利，英国自然环境研究理事会战略合作伙伴——生态与水文中心前执行主任（2011-2023年）。获博士学位后，于伯明翰大学从事梅毒致病性分子遗传学研究。1987年，在生态与水文中心牛津分部的病毒学与环境微生物学研究所创立分子微生物生态学研究组，并于2003年至2011年间先后担任该中心所长、生物多样性科学主任。其现任职务包括：卢森堡科学技术研究院科学顾问委员会主席、英国普利茅斯海洋生物学协会理事等。作为微生物生态学领域权威学者，他致力于分子遗传学技术的开发与应用，系统研究：微生物群落动态的底层机制、生境调控的基因表达规律、微生物组功能活性、水平基因库（抗性组）的进化关联性等领域。发表论文逾200篇学术论文，并拓展至生物地球化学循环、功能多样性及分子生态学应用研究，揭示微生物在生态系统服务维系中的进化驱动力与区域适应性机制。其学术贡献与荣誉包括：国际微生物生态学会（ISME）执行委员会成员、会刊《ISME Journal》创刊主编、2021年获颁中国政府友谊奖。

Professor Mark J. Bailey OBE FAAM, FRSB, Executive Director (retired) of the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (2011-2023) a strategic partner for the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). After his PhD he studied the molecular genetics of syphilis pathogenicity at Birmingham University. |Then in1987 founded the Molecular Microbial Ecology group at the Institute Virology & Environmental Microbiology, CEH-Oxford, before his appointment as Director and then Science Director Biodiversity at CEH (2003-11). His current roles, beyond ISAC for CREAS, are that of trustee for the Marine Biology Association, Plymouth UK and chair of the Science advisory Board, Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology. He holds honorary positions and as served on national and international panels and advisory committees across the diverse fields of the environment sciences. He is recognized for his contribution in the development and application of molecular genetics to study the underlying principles of microbial community dynamics, habitat regulated gene expression, the functional activity of communities (microbiome) and the evolutionary relevance of the horizontal gene pool (resistome) articulated in over 200 publications. Related research interests include biogeochemical cycling, functional diversity and the wider application of molecular ecology in the environmental sciences to understand the driving forces of evolution and local adaptation to better define the contribution that microbes play in sustaining and delivering ecosystem services. He was a founding Editor in Chief of the International Society Microbial Ecology Journal a member of the ISME executive committee.
