Roger Falconer is a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, and a renowned expert in environmental hydraulics. In 2022 he was awarded the Chinese Government Friendship Award – “the People's Republic of China's highest award highest award to foreign nationals.” He holds the title of Emeritus Professor at Cardiff University and serves as Chair Professor at Hohai University, as well as at the Yangtze Institute for Conservation and Development. Professor Falconer's primary research areas encompass water environment impact assessment, flood risk modeling and mitigation, research on tidal and river-based renewable energy devices and structures, and global water security analysis. Through the development and application of integrated and holistic computational models, he has pioneered water management solutions from catchment to coast, known as C2C. He has also developed CONTANK, a model that predicts the disinfection process in water contact tanks, and collaborated with industry partners to refine models for predicting one-dimensional and two-dimensional flood heights and inundation extents. Professor Falconer has authored over 400 peer-reviewed papers in journals and conferences focused on hydraulic engineering.
